PLEASE HELP!! Singer 4220

I have a Singer Inspiration 4220 and I have had it for quite a few years a
few weeks ago the timing went completely out it will not catch the bobbin
at all or sew one stitch! I got some great advice and instructions on how
to fix it from a person on mendit.com he told me exactly how to do it and
also I did some research and looked at pictures and diagrams before I
attempted to fix it so I could understand more how the machine works.

I completely took the machine apart and then I sat there and looked at the
cloned nylon timing gear below the raceway and realized that there are no
allen screws to slack off!!! I have seen many pictures of Nylon timing
gears and they all have allen screws, but mine only has a black round
metal piece attatched to the very top. WHAT DO I DO???

Is there a way to loosen that nylon gear so I can fix the timing??? PLEASE
HELP!! If anyone knows how I can do this I would be so thankful for your
help!!! I do not have the money to take it to be repaired and once I
opened it I could see how easy it could be to fix it if I could just get
that nylon gear loose!!

Did you notice that the small, round gear that the nylon gear drives
might have a couple of set screws that could be loosened for timing
adjustment?

If it really does need a timing adjustment, and that is debatable. The
screws you would loosen are not on the gear. That gear on the upper vertical
shaft is pinned.
As are all the gears on that model from what I can see in the parts book.
In that case you would have to manipulate the timing belt to achieve the
proper hook to needle relationship.
