Serger question30 Sep 2004 21:24 GMT6
I looked for a serger-specific newsgroup, but no go, so I'll give it a
go here. (Used to post on here YEARS ago, but anyway...)
I pulled out my serger after a summer rest for making my daughter's
school shirts. It's a poly-cotton blend material (70-30), and I'm using
glue on back of hook and loop fastens to needle of sewing machine30 Sep 2004 16:08 GMT7
I have a hook and loop that I am trying to sew to a fabric. The hook
and loop has glue on its back so that it is easy to hold it in the
correct place on the fabric while sewing. Only problem is that the
glue sticks to the needle of the sewing machine and makes it

Cleaning=Almost like Christmas!30 Sep 2004 04:18 GMT2
I took the day off to do some organizing around the house before I have
surgery on my shoulder next month (no lifting for about three months at
least). I also needed to sort out one of the storage sheds where boxes got
dumped when I first moved and haven't been looked at since.

Sewing Machine Cabinets29 Sep 2004 21:01 GMT11
Can't remember who was asking about SMC: browsing through the newest
magazines at TSWLTH, I came across a _very_ nice offering.
Found in Better Homes and Gardens Fall/Winter '04 sewing mag, page

Did I see on this board within the last day or so someone posted
JoAnn's is having a sale next week?  I thought I saw someone had
posted McCall's patterns will be on sale for 99 cents?!?!?!  Will
there be a limit, such as 5 per shopper?  Any info certainly will be
project ideas29 Sep 2004 14:57 GMT8
I inherited several books of drapery and upholstery samples.   These
are expensive fabrics.  The harvested swatches range from small  -- 4
to 5 inches to about 12 to 14 inches.
I'm looking for ideas to make up something useful.
Garment Fading29 Sep 2004 14:30 GMT20
We talked about turning the garments inside out to keep them from fading,
but here is a new one that I haven't run across before.  DH has  a fairly
new button down the front, regular shirt.  It has probably been washed 3-4
times.  It is a really pretty light blue, but it's not as ...
Help with Machine eating fabric29 Sep 2004 13:53 GMT19
I have been having a problem when sewing very light material like 1.1 oz
ripstop nylon.
Now and then the needle / thread seems to start catching the material and
shoving it down into the bobin area or pulling it up through the foot.  This
Anyone heard of a string bag?28 Sep 2004 21:14 GMT6
Does anyone remember the dear old string bag their Nanna used to take to
the shops? Our supermarket is selling cheap canvas shopping bags in the
hope of replacing the disposable plastic ones, but I thought I'd rather
make a couple of the old fashioned string bags, which expanded

the material is 60" wide how many yards will I need to get final finished
product of 80 x 74, material has a pattern.

Sewing related scary story 28 Sep 2004 09:37 GMT30
I just had a BIG scare.  I was in my sewing room and my two youngest were
playing in the play area.  I had my iron plugged in but put up and the cord
out of the way.
But the cord wasn't out of reach of the two year old.  She is a fast little
Lost new UK web-site28 Sep 2004 09:17 GMT6
Hoping if someone could help. Just before I left England to move back to
Canada someone posted a message on here about a new English web-site for
sewers which I registered for.  However, my computer broke down 2 weeks
before I left so I lost all my favourites.
unlocking reverse on my Kenmore 160128 Sep 2004 03:30 GMT1
I have my grandmother's old machine.  It has been absolutely wonderful
so far.  I don't know what I have done, but apparently I have locked
it into reverse.  The booklet that came with it doesn't even tell me
how to lock it in reverse, so I hope that it is not broken.  Does
