| Hypothetical emergency welder | 30 Apr 2005 16:43 GMT | 14 |
Could a combination of car batteries be combined in series / parallel or both to be able give enough to weld with in an emergency situation? The batteries would be 12V with 800CCA. Shoot down this idea quick if you need to.

| Just how sharp and polished should a tungsten be? | 30 Apr 2005 09:33 GMT | 1 |
I'm working with aluminum and wish to create a nice neat "T" joint. I am having problems with the arc being too wide and getting too much heat spread too far and creating a large overheated fillet. I looked at Tungsten grinders and their price seems to be outrageous. I

| Retipping diamond core bits | 27 Apr 2005 18:43 GMT | 2 |
We have a worn Hilti diamond core bit. We've cut away 4" and have a new 4" replacement tip. They're magnetic hence deem them as steel. Being that the bits operate at ~ 2500 rpm we'd like to have as little rotational eccentricity while drilling for obvious reasons. Also as

| Plug for book "Welding Essentials" | 26 Apr 2005 14:19 GMT | 1 |
I checked out a copy of this book from the library the other day and wanted to offer up how impressed with it I was. I'm relearning my skills, with a million other things going on in my life as well, so it is really nice to have a book chock full of facts laid out in a way that ...

| Simple rod dryer | 26 Apr 2005 09:40 GMT | 25 |
I will be needing a spot to keep my 7018 rods dry, as it's usually pretty damp here in the Pacific Northwest. I don't need anything fancy, just a place where I can keep them and be able to dry them out. I've seen setups with light bulbs, but will/does that do a decent job? ...

| Must finish a job, but don't have the right gas | 26 Apr 2005 05:16 GMT | 5 |
I am in the middle of a job and ran out of argon. Called my local supply shop and had them drop off a cylinder of argon on saturday. Now my fault is that I did not check to see if it was right, and of course it is a cylinder of 75/25. So toady's question is, besides a lot of ...

| Damaged & Rusted Steel Trusses Designed to Span 60'. Repair Or Re-Fabricate? | 24 Apr 2005 21:52 GMT | 37 |
Here's a serious welding topic if ever there was one. Some time ago, I bought out a pile of salvaged steel trusses. Each set consists of four pieces. The four pieces, bolted together and erected, make a free span of 60' outside to outside.

| what makes 6011 freeze fast? | 24 Apr 2005 17:33 GMT | 3 |
Posted this to a web board but didn't get the answer I was looking for so here it is... What is it that makes 6011 and 6010 electrodes solidify quickly? Is it the fact that there's only a little slag (blanket) covering the pool so it

| Gaining Experience With Small MIG - Now Have More Questions | 24 Apr 2005 07:16 GMT | 7 |
I just finished a project involving using my trusty Handler 120 for modifying a trailer constructed of 3/16 inch angle (2 X 2 and 2 X 3). With some last minute advice from Ernie and a few other great folks on here, I got really satisfying results. Compared vertical up and
