| Welding bearing balls | 30 Jul 2009 16:13 GMT | 13 |
I have two large bearing balls (I would say 2.5" diameter) that I acquired 22 years ago from a Soviet ball bearing factory. For any reason, I brought them here with me, and could not find any use for them, until now. As of now, I want to use one of them on my anvil for

| Newbie stick welding question | 30 Jul 2009 09:32 GMT | 42 |
The other day I was welding 20mm by 30mm and 2mm thick angle iron bars to each other. The resulting thing will be a frame to place my table saw on. I have used 3.25mm 6013 rods with a current setting of about 125 Amps. But when I started to weld the 30mm side of the bars, the first ...

| Free: 220 cu ft cylinder | 26 Jul 2009 01:26 GMT | 2 |
Navy surplus. 1800 psi, so I guess it's really 200 cu ft. Out of test. Nitrous oxide valve (can't read the CGA number: CGA?26, 326?). Airgas does not refill this size owner cylinder. They have pretty much bought up all the dealers around here, so I'm SOL. YMMV

| places to stay when traveling | 23 Jul 2009 16:02 GMT | 10 |
I figure many of us have been socially networking here for years and have in a way come to know each other. What if we went one step farther and set up kind of a network of places where we could stay with each other while travelling? I can just imagine the shop tours .. the ...

| Cast iron welding, part deux | 23 Jul 2009 12:28 GMT | 1 |
After my relatively successful repair of a grinder guard, thanks to great ideas I got here, I am now sorting through various kinds of cast iron stick welding rod that I got at someplace some time ago (this is a big pile, includes other exotics like inconel, stainless, tool steel

| replacing hammer faces on rawhide-faced mallet? | 20 Jul 2009 04:02 GMT | 10 |
I picked up an old rawhide-faced mallet recently. In the same lot came a box with replacement faces. The old ones were mushroomed beyond belief. I removed the old faces and immediately realized the new mallet faces (a strip of rawhide spiral-wound, glued and stapled) were too ...

| tombstone | 19 Jul 2009 12:21 GMT | 21 |
For the first time ever, I tried a Lincoln AC 250, a.k.a tombstone welder, today. (someone came today to buy it, so I had to test it) I was actually pleasantly surprised. Running welding beads with 6013 was as easy as with my Syncrowave was easy to maintain the arc,

| What a pleasant supprise. | 19 Jul 2009 11:57 GMT | 26 |
A few years back I bought a Hobart 120v. -140 Amp mig machine. I got an electronic helmet with the purchase. I had a terrible time welding with the machine. I just could not see the work at all. I could sometimes see the puddle but when welding a butt

I just bought on of these used. I need a manual and can't download one from Miller cuz the SN on the front plate is not a Miller #. The machine is a rebadged unit from a dealer, Machinery & Welders in Milwaukee. Can someone tell me where to find a SN on the frame or elsewhere on the ...
