| insulate shop attic | 30 Nov 2008 22:52 GMT | 8 |
OK, I've put this job off all year while it was warm. I need to insulate the garage/shop attic. I have about 500 SF of attic space to insulate and the joists are 2x12 on 16" centers. I'm trying to decide between cellulose and fiberglass. From what I can determine, cellulose ...

| how to encode drawer order? | 30 Nov 2008 20:52 GMT | 12 |
I been working on a cutting table for my wife with a bank of 10 pull-through drawers below. That is 20 "drawer fronts". Since the wood is highly figured and adjacent drawer fronts were each cut from the same board, they have a very specific order. In addition to that,

| AC Floor People // Question About Dealers | 30 Nov 2008 17:09 GMT | 4 |
There are many fine dealers in AC. There are also some dealers who do a terrible wash, or shuffle in big clumps in the riffle, or occasionally skimp and try to get by with only two riffles.

| Veritas Block Planes - improved functionality? | 30 Nov 2008 15:54 GMT | 3 |
I see that LV has added a couple new block planes to their line. (Also discussed in Mr. Ferrarri - Meet Mr. Stanley, etc..) They are certainly different looking animals, no question. But looks aside, are these planes going to function better than the current blocks they

| Gun rack question | 29 Nov 2008 21:51 GMT | 4 |
I'm building a couple of gun racks for a retiring coworker. They'll be similar to this one: http://www.thedolk.com/gunrack/index.html Just something so they have a safe place to stay.

| OT/ Yearly physical. | 29 Nov 2008 21:40 GMT | 29 |
I had my annual full medical this morning. I'm male, over 55. That's 2 out of 3 (or more) risk factors for heart disease. I'm always a bit concerned about what he'll find this time around.

| Any ideas for a elevated deer blind? | 29 Nov 2008 21:02 GMT | 21 |
I've been thinking of building a elevated deer stand for gun and bow hunting. About 5-6' off the ground. I can come up with something fairly mundane that is going to work but I'd like to hear about any interesting tweeks the deer hunters have incorporated into the typical 6x6 or ...

| sequel to old substance under flooring | 29 Nov 2008 16:52 GMT | 1 |
Sorry I didn't give a larger picture of what I'm doing in the first post on this topic. This entire apartment has a concrete floor. We're expanding the kitchen, which was originally hexagonal mosaic set in about 1-1/4" of

| Off Topic: Magnanimous Gesture | 29 Nov 2008 00:45 GMT | 2 |
I saw this lurking elsewhere. The election is over, the results are now known. The will of the people has clearly been shown. We should show by our thoughts and our words and our deeds

| Plywood question | 28 Nov 2008 22:05 GMT | 13 |
Given the wide variations in quality in construction lumber these days, does anyone have any insight into how to estimate the voids in a sheet of ply (say ACX) before cutting into it? (Without breaking down and getting stuff like marine plywood manufactured to a spec defining no ...

| Purpose of leather shock washers | 28 Nov 2008 21:26 GMT | 17 |
I recently finished removing (4) 1/2" layers of fir from a pair of glulam beams (for my workbench, but that's another story). I did this by making lots of 1/2" deep saw cuts across the beam faces, then using some bench chisels to waste away the majority of the wood. Lots of ...

| Need help from an experienced builder/carpenter | 28 Nov 2008 20:56 GMT | 25 |
http://porchmonkey.250free.com/2houses.jpg I built this (see link below) for my kids a while back. At that time, and against my better judgement, I took the advice from my local lumberyard and did not concrete the 4"×6" posts into the post holes.

| Newbie Sanding block question | 28 Nov 2008 20:30 GMT | 9 |
I have to take some 450 grit sand paper and glue it to a piece of wood in order to make a sanding block. What is the best kind of glue to use for something like this or is there a device that makes this simpler? Thank you.
